Employee Recognition Program, Cohesion in Workplace

6 Ways to Improve Team Cohesion in The Workplace

Posted on May 13, 2022December 26, 2023

Successful business strategies are typically executed by an effective team with a high level of team cohesion. Teams that feel connected are more likely to succeed when working on projects and communicate and interact more successfully when performing tasks related to the end goal.

Most people work as part of a team at some point in their careers. Teams in the workplace need cohesion to function effectively and productively and successfully achieve their goals.

Here are six ways to build a cohesive team:

1. Communicate effectively:

Your workforce cannot be cohesive if communication is unsuccessful. Make sure that the modes of communication are consistent. Ensure to explain the team’s instructions and goals in simple ways. Make sure all announcements are constructed for the benefit of the team.

Warranty that all messages are in tune with the company’s goals. Cohesive groups use meetings as a final option and instead talk asynchronously. They make sure all their work is virtually documented and reachable to their colleagues. They share their thoughts in the form of established, structured write-ups instead of one-line-at-a-time

As per a CMS Wire report, 97% of employees believe communication impacts their task efficacy on a daily basis.

Genuinely cohesive teams use meetings as a last resort instead of communicating asynchronously. Each member makes sure all their work is clearly documented and accessible to their colleagues. They share their thoughts in the form of structured, thoughtful write-ups rather than broken message threads through internal communication modes.

2. Establish A Mission:

Founders and business managers know how important it is to create a mission statement for their company. Whether hanging on a wall for all to see or stored on a hard drive somewhere, your mission- vision statement serves as a roadmap or action plan that will lead your business to success.

As helpful as a mission statement is for your company, it can also be beneficial when applied to your team (or even individuals) on a smaller scale.

According to a report- The cost of poor communications, “communication barriers that arise in the workplace stand at $62.4 million per company.

Sit down with your employees and define a team-specific mission to guide them in their daily work and long-term goals.

When everyone works for the same mission, group cohesion will increase.

  1. Doing team-building activities.

It is important to focus on the goals the team needs to achieve and the relationships between team members that help achieve those goals. Team building activities help increase members’ confidence and overall morale and encourage team members to build relationships to support team success.

Examples of team-building activities that can help you:

  • Volunteer work
  • Monthly team outings
  • Circle of appreciation
  • Peer-to-Peer rewarding systems
  • Team games
  • Team lunch/dinner

Consider conducting a team-building activity at least once a month to support team association building and allow members to establish relationships with one another.

  1. Resolve conflicts immediately

You could increase group brotherly bonds by resolving disputes and arguments among team participants right away. A few constructive conflicts (friendly disagreement) can construct the crew up; however, if that problem escalates to real discord, it can break the team down until no solution is found.

Workplace conflict is a decisive factor in more than 50% of employee departures.

When actual conflict arises, give your group participants the chance to resolve it independently. If they cannot reach a consensus, take the opportunity to step in, intervene, and facilitate a solution.

  1. Take Suggestions and Feedback

Taking suggestions and feedback from your staffers is another crucial thing you must pay attention to when handling a team. Team building equips your team with the skills, resources, and training that your people need to work in harmony. It will help you apprehend where your project is heading and whether there’s something that you can do to make it better.

  1. Celebrate successes as a team

Celebrating achievement as a team may considerably impact general group cohesiveness. Instead of celebrating individual success, celebrate their part in the team. Boosting team morale is fundamental to improving team cohesion. Whether it is a new product launch or a closed deal, make sure to have an enjoyable time with those successes as a group.

Conclusion:

Positive peer association is one of the most valuable things you can develop in the work environment. Organizations struggle with motivation and recognition among peers and performance-based hierarchical awards, resulting in lower morale and higher attrition rates. Although it is unimaginable to force your employees to forge forced friendships, you can implement Employee Recognition Program strategies to make it easier for them. Start by establishing a culture of recognition & appreciation.

Zaggle Propel provides a one-stop platform for peer-to-peer recognition nomination rewards with quirky badges based on approvals. This helps you as managers improve your teams’ engagement and boost a culture of recognition. Thank your team members for their contribution and recognize that all members play a vital role in meeting goals. With Zaggle, make it easy for your team members to share what they love about their job and support their colleagues.
